Ticks

Ticks are small arachnids found throughout the countryside. They like to live on warm-blooded animals such as sheep and deer.

Ticks tend to be found on heathland and woodland sites but can be found in grasslands as well. They live on warm-blooded animals, where they will suck on the animal's blood, dropping off when they are full.

A small percentage of ticks can carry diseases, some of which can be harmful to humans, such as Lyme Disease.

As part of a national monitoring programme for Public Health England, the Team collects ticks during the summer months and send them off, where they are tested to see if they are carrying diseases.
