Heritage Monument Surveyors

An easy way to get out and explore the Quantock Hills and help protect our historic heritage at the same time.

Heritage Monument Volunteers monitor the 51 scheduled monuments which are found within the Quantock Hills. These range from the widely known ones such as Trendle Ring, Dowsborough Hill Fort and Dead Woman’s Ditch to the small barrows and cairns hidden amongst the heather on the northern Common. This information is used in conjunction with Historic England to monitor, maintain and preserve the monuments. Monitoring takes place twice a year with a visit to the scheduled monument to assess its condition.
