A volunteer led photo archive project on the Quantock Hills has been given a new lease of life with the launch of a new website. The Quantock Views project was initiated and led by Keith Edwards, a volunteer with the National Landscape Team, in 2017 and since that time over 1,000 historic images of the Quantock Hills, its communities and landscapes, have been captured.
The project was set up to capture existing collections of photographs, postcards and paintings which are rarely seen and to gather together private collections and recollections, which may be in danger of being lost to the Quantock community.
Iain Porter, Manager of the Quantock Hills National Landscape Team, said ‘It is great to see this volunteer led project with its new website, allowing people to explore the archive and see the Quantock Hills as it was 100 years ago. Completing this new website coincides with our Management Plan review and it has been great to see the historic changes across the Quantock Hills as we plan for the future.
Anyone interested in the archive can view it online at www.quantockviews.com. We will shortly be looking to start collecting further images and if you are interested in volunteering in the project by helping to collect and archive pictures please contact the Team at quantockhills@somerset.gov.uk
The consultation on the draft Quantock Hills Management Plan is open until 31 December 2025 and further information can be found on the Quantock Hills National Landscape Team’s website - Management Plan 2026-2031 (All) | Quantock Hills
