The hazel dormouse is a very rare rodent which you will be lucky to spot. Not only are they are rare but because they spend most of the day asleep. At night they will climb the trees searching for food such as nuts, berries and insects.
Some of the woodlands of the Quantock Hills are known to have populations of dormice and we undertake monitoring to check populations. The dormouse is a protected species so only trained and licenced volunteers and staff can take part in this moitoring scheme.
