About the event
A 5.3 mile traverse of Trendle Ring, a slow trail that will roll around the hills and trundle back down to complete the Quantock quest. Go in search of the historic ring and see the summer wildlife on the hills with our Trendle Trundle.
The Trendle Ring is a pre-historic hill-slope enclosure on the Quantock Hills near Bicknoller. It is located on a very extreme topographic location, on a steeply sloping spur on the southwest edge of Bicknoller Hill, overlooking the village of Bicknoller. The sub rectangular enclosure is defined by a bank and ditch on its north and east sides, and by a steep scarp on its west and south sides, giving an interior of 0.7ha. The interior was originally accessed through a gap in the east side, a way up to the enclosure from Bicknoller runs through the lower part of the enclosure from southeast to northwest. Two level areas, formed by cutting into the hill-slope, can be seen just inside the bank on the northern side of the enclosure. The form and structure suggest that the Trendle Ring was constructed in the later prehistoric period, but its function remains unknown and a matter for discussion...
