Summer on the Quantocks Guided Walk (10 miles)
Join Don & John on an early summer guided walk starting at Lydeard Hill Car Park.

Time & Location

Lydeard Hill Car Park, West Bagborough, Taunton TA4 3DY, UK
About the event
Starting at Lydeard Hill car park this walk will go along rural lanes and woodland via Cothelstone Hill down to Ivyton Farm, then along tracks through farmland and lanes to Cushuish, Cothelstone, and West Bagborough, before climbing up steep woodland tracks to the top of the hills and Will’s Neck, the highest point in the Quantocks. From there it will be a hilltop traverse back to the car park.
This challenging and strenuous walk of some 17 kilometres (10 miles) will go through fields and woodlands, as well as open hilltop and along some lanes, where traffic will be expected. This route will be altered to avoid any forestry or agricultural operations that may be taking place. The route includes descending and climbing some steep pathways and lanes, as well as a couple of tricky road junctions, where care will be needed.
Depending upon the weather conditions, some of the pathways will be very muddy, and some will be stony, so sturdy and waterproof footwear will be necessary, as well as appropriate clothing. While most of the tracks go through gates, there are several stiles en route.
The walk could take about five hours so you should bring a packed lunch and liquid refreshment with you. As this walk will be taking place during the ground-nesting bird season, any dogs brought along will need to be kept on a short lead.
The walk leaders will be John Crabtree and Don Hobson.
