About the event
Join our Partnership Ranger Owen and Quantock Hills AONB Manager Iain in their search for the elusive creatures of the night including nightjars, a summer visitor from Africa and glow worms. Â Discover the amazing life of these creatures that make the heathlands and forests their home.
The nightjar are secretive birds with a distinctive churring call are a wonderful sight to see. Â Hopefully on this guided walk you will be able to see and hear the 'goatsucker' as they are sometimes referred to. Â The best time to see them is April/July.
The glow-worm is not actually a worm, but a beetle. Â Males look like typical beetles, but the nightly glow of a female is unmistakeable, lighting up to attract a mate in the darkness of their grassland habitats. Â The best time to see them is June/July.
Don't forget to wear sturdy Footwear and warm clothing appropriate for the weather conditions on the evening, bring a torch and any refreshments you may require for the duration of the walk.
The meeting point for the nightjar walk is at the entrance to St Audries a large pull in off on the A39 and everyone will be directed to parking on the night.
