Quantock Countryside Volunteers made a fantastic improvement to Lydeard Hill car park last Thursday by clearing a dense block of gorse from along the fence line. The gorse had grown up over a number of years and gradually obscured the view from this hilltop car park.
The benefits of their hard work have already been appreciated by many, especially on Sunday when the car park was completely full with everyone taking advantage of the clear, sunny conditions.
Views from the car park must be some of the best in the County. Basically facing south west the view looks across the Vale of Taunton Deane and includes the Blackdown Hills, Brendon Hills, Haldon Hill (beyond Exeter) and Dartmoor even further to the south west on the horizon.
For those who aren’t able to get out on foot into the heart of the hills and enjoy the summit views from Will Neck, Lydeard Hill car park offers some unrivalled views from Somerset into Devon.
Many thanks to the volunteers who helped with this work last week (it was bloomin’ cold up there) … I’m sure that your efforts will be appreciated by many!
Tim

Ticks are becoming more common and a bite from this spider-like parasite could lead to Lyme Disease. This is a treatable infection caused by bacterium transmitted by ticks when they bite. Not every tick carries Lyme Disease and it is important to realise that the disease is relatively rare.
